Where is this event taking place? 

Outdoor activity, including the giant bamboo arch, can be found next to the KPA Clubhouse, Keele University Campus. This is location number 9 on the map, which you can find here keele-campus-map-jan-2023.pd

All of the talks will be taking place at the Horwood Energy Centre, Keele University Campus. This is location number 45 on the map.

Where can I park for this event?

The nearest car park would be the Students’ Union car park. The postcode for this location is ST5 5BJ. Parking is free on weekends.

If you are attending Saturday’s activities, there is permit holders’ parking located opposite the KPA site. It is free to park here on Saturdays.

There are two Blue Badge bays located outside of the Horwood Energy Centre. The postcode for this location is ST5 5DY.

Sometimes parking spots can be tricky to find on campus during the week. There should always be spaces available on parking lot 7 outside the Caudwell Children building. It is around a seven-minute walk from the build site. On the image below the RED X marks the entrance to campus from Keele Road, and the RED ARROWS show the route by car to the parking lot, marked with a BLUE X. YELLOW ARROWS mark the walk by foot to Horwood Hall, with the final destination marked with a YELLOW X.

Can I get the bus to Keele Campus?

Buses stop regularly on campus with the closest bus stop being the Students’ Union. You can find out more here: Travelling around Keele and the local area – Keele University

Are there toilets at this event?

If you are coming to have a go at our outdoor activities, the nearest toilets are based at Keele University Students’ Union. This is located at number 8 on the map. Our event is taking place next to the KPA Clubhouse, located at number 9 keele-campus-map-jan-2023.pd. There is an accessible toilet located on the ground floor with baby changing facilities. There is a ramp/slope at the main entrance to the building.

Is this event accessible for wheelchair users?

The outdoor activity and the talks are wheelchair accessible. There will be grass matting outside to enable wheelchair users to navigate the site.

There is a ramp/slope and 4 steps with a handrails at the entrance to the Horwood Energy Centre. There is also a public lift inside.

Can I use the swing if I am a wheelchair user?

Yes, we will have a wheelchair accessible swing for anyone who might want to join in. Electric wheelchairs will not be able to use the wheelchair platform swing due to it’s weight limit of 100kg. We will have a lightweight manual wheelchair (12kg) available for people using electric wheelchairs or heavier manual chairs to transfer into if they are able and would like to use the swing.

Is BSL and Audio Description available on the day?

BSL interpretation is currently available for two of our talks:

  • Can creative structural engineering help fight the climate crisis? Chris Matthews, Atelier One – Thursday 16 March, 2pm (40 mins)
  • Introduction to Bamboo. Michael Brisbane, bamboo expert. Saturday 18 March, 12.30pm (40 mins)

Audio Description is available throughout the day. Members of staff will be onsite throughout the day for more information.

Will there be photography and filming at this event?

Photography and filming will take place during this event. If you prefer not to be photographed, please speak to a member of our team onsite on the day.

Can I bring my dog to the event?

Dogs are allowed on campus, however the university asks that you keep your pet on a lead for your safety. Only assistance dogs are permitted inside the campus buildings.

Are my tickets refundable? 

If you can no longer make your volunteering slot or attend the event you have booked onto, we ask that you please cancel your ticket via Eventbrite. Tickets are free, so you won’t need a refund, however as our activities have limited capacity, cancelling your unwanted ticketed will mean that slot is now available for another member of the public to book onto.
